Lifecasting

Materials

A one day course designed to introduce students to the art of life casting. Students learn how to cast different parts of the body to create their own sculpture and monumentalise themselves and others.

The course covers a wide variety of techniques starting with basic use of modroc and alginate; two materials often used in life-casting from the body. Students will then explore how to create replicas in plaster.

During the course, students will be shown a demonstration of how to safely lifecast a face and then cast it out in plaster. After this students will be grouped into teams of two to lifecast either the hands or face of the other team mate as preferred. They will then cast these out in plaster to take home.

If the student wishes to partake in the sculpture course they may wish to use these casts as a base for sculpting onto.

Students should bring the following materials to the session:

  • Notebook
  • Apron / Overalls
  • Messy clothes (students can expect to get very messy during the course and should wear clothing that they don't mind getting messy)
£99.00
